Forced perspective effects are used in movie making to make things look bigger or smaller than they appear. However, the technique is not limited to cinematography. According to the Wikipedia article - Disney makes use of forced perspective to enhance the apparent height of the buildings along Main Street and to make Cinderella’s castle appear much longer than it truly is. The effect is accomplished because “the (fake) second stories of all the buildings along Main Street are shorter than the first stories, and the third stories are even smaller than the second, and the top windows of the castle are much smaller than they appear; the resulting visual effect is that the buildings seem larger and taller than they really are.”

Many of you have seen and possibly taken pictures of someone holding the Eifel Tower or Taj Mahal in the palm of their hands. This is also accomplished using forced perspective. Since the building is significantly further back than the person, the building gets scaled down to look much smaller than it actually is. With the right scene setup and camera angles, the photographer can make it appear as though the building is in the palm of the persons hand.
For our project, we will attempt to accomplish similar forced perspective effects by using digital manipulation of photos.
The first attempts at traditional camera forced perspective did not go so well:
