What is a critique?

• 3 students agree to critique a shot or type of effect from a specific movie

• Watch the effect, then discuss and document the different methods and techniques you think were used to achieve the effect. (Note: the simpler the solution, the more likely that's the way it was done)

• Search through any available sources and document the "actual" effect design:
  • net/usenet (alt.movies.visual-effects
  • making-of articles/videos
  • Cinefex, other published articles
  • ask someone who worked on it

• Discuss alternative means of doing this effect, if any. Has new technology made this easier?

• Discuss if this effect has some bearing on/inspiration for the effect you're planning to do.

• Assemble a swiki-page with your notes, supporting stills/movies/links.

• Team-present your findings to the class on the due-date.
