What is a critique?
Formula for a good critique:
- 3 students agree to critique a shot or type of effect from a specific movie
- Watch the effect, then discuss and document the different methods and techniques you think were used to achieve the effect. (Note: the simpler the solution, the more likely that's the way it was done)
- Search through any available sources and document the "actual" effect design:
- net/usenet (alt.movies.visual-effects
- making-of articles/videos
- Cinefex, other published articles
- ask someone who worked on it
- Discuss alternative means of doing this effect, if any. Has new technology made this easier?
- Discuss if this effect has some bearing on/inspiration for the effect you're planning to do.
- Assemble a swiki-page with your notes, supporting stills/movies/links.
- Team-present your findings to the class on the due-date.
