G1-Update3

New Progress:

Using blob detection in processing, we were able to create "closed worlds" in which we could analyze each player
Then, using a weighted average of the non-black pixels, we found the axis of the player, which we will use as the X coordinate for tracking

Then, using the colors of the blobs for help, we kept track of which player was which using a nascar-effect style arrow.

To deal with occlusion, we divided the blob into sections to try to keep track of each section

Added one scene where Daniel is now on top of the virtual court:
virtual_dan_on_top.jpg

Made mel script that allows user to move green shot crosses to match player's position:

Things to do:
Research ways to make this pretty in maya
Think about making the effect a nascar style arrow instead of a circle beneath the players.

Date Goal Method/Specifics Progress
02/27/2007 Proposal Write an update on the coweb Complete
03/15/2007 Mid Term Report: have footage shot, research algorithms Take footage outside/inside Complete
03/27/2007 Be able to extract the ball from the data Use matlab to do background subtraction and find x/y point of images to store for future use Complete
04/03/2007 Place a line over the ball and complete stromotion More matlab code. Using a vector of points, we can place a line over the trajectory of the ball. Use premiere to make images into a movie to put on the website. Complete, code cleanup needed
04/10/2007 Track players position to do shot selection chart Use maya to model the court. Research tracking algorithms to see if background subtraction would be useful. Research to see if multiple camera angles would be needed. Take footage of 1-on-1 game. Footage and maya model complete. Tracking done, need to export these coordinates to maya to make this look much better
04/12/2007 Preview showing. Add credits, music to video and clean up effect. After Effects and Premiere for creating near-complete video. Create good selection of shots to use and add some intros and good looking images. None
04/17/2007 Update 4 Further cleanup if needed. More work in maya. None
04/26/2007 Final Showing Turn in final video to DVFX folder None
Final Exam Period FP_Report/FP_Contributions report Writin' stuff None
